organic, the way to go

Organic farming not only protects the earth and the water supply so our children have a cleaner and safer world to grow up in. It also keeps potentially harmful chemicals out of our little ones’ especially vulnerable bodies. Organic fruits and vegetables are grown without the chemical pesticides, chemical fertilizers, sludge sewage, bioengineering, antibiotics, and ionizing radiation that have no place at our children's high chairs.

There are TONS of reasons to choose organic. Here are just a few that made us say "wow!":
  • The Environmental Protection Agency reports that children receive 50% of their lifetime cancer risks in the first two years of life
  • According to the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Academy of Sciences, standard chemicals are up to 10 times more toxic for children than for adults. The fact is children take in more toxic chemicals relative to their body weight than adults. And their developing organ systems are less capable of detoxifying chemicals
  • The Food and Drug Administration conducted laboratory tests of 8 top-selling baby foods which revealed the presence of 16 pesticides, including 3 carcinogens
  • In blood samples of children aged 2 to 4 years, concentrations of pesticides are 6 times higher for those kids eating conventionally farmed fruits and vegetables when compared with those kids eating organic foods
  • The Centers for Disease Control reports that one of the main sources of pesticide exposure for children comes from the food they eat

Please excuse us as we climb up on our soapbox, but it must be said: just because something says it’s organic does NOT mean that it’s necessarily a healthy option. Surprised? Processed and sugary foods can be made with organic ingredients, too. Since we know these things matter to you too, be sure to read beyond the organic label to the ingredients list.

Here's a resource that we use to learn more about organic, how organic farming "has long been the standard for human nutrition," and why it especially matters for our children: http://www.drgreene.com/21_868.html
